Lost - the Visitor Services Officer

E-mail Print PDF

Well, it sounds careless to lose a Visitor Services Officer, but that's what's happened! Actually Keris has decided to explore pastures new, and we thought you'd like to know that chapping on the door of the Portakabin will get no response...

The Committee of the Friends of Haddo Country Park would like to publicly express our thanks to Keris for her hard work and determination over her time at the Country Park. We are sure that without her spark and spirit the bid to the Heritage Lottery Fund would have been much the weaker, and less inclusive of people's ideas.

Keris, we wish you well...

Discover Haddo Volunteer Afternoon Tuesday 9th August 2 - 4pm

E-mail Print PDF

We are continuing our work on the Discover Haddo Project and need your help!  Why not come along to the country park and help us develop this area to benefit all visitors to Haddo?

Since our last volunteer session the Inverurie Scouts have been busy building insect 'hotels'.  These are structures of discarded pallets filled with recycled materials such as small branches, moss, dry leaves, loose bark, stones etc which the group sourced from around the park.  The idea is to create lots of different habitats for a variety of insect species in one spot, whilst also adding something visually interesting!

So as you can see, work on the project is progressing, but there is still a long way to go!

No experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a sense of humour......so why not come and have some fun, whilst helping to improve our amazing Country Park?

About 'Friends'

Friends of Haddo Country Park was formed in 2009 to try to help improve the way that it is managed for the benefit of visitors and to provide a voice for people who want to make a positive contribution to the sustainable development of the Country Park.

About Haddo

Haddo Country Park was created in 1979 when the 4th Marquess of Aberdeen transferred 72.9 hectares of Haddo House policies to the Grampian Regional Council.  Aberdeenshire Council now owns and operates the Country Park.

The Park is part of a landscape developed in the first half of the 19th Century by the 4th Earl of Aberdeen, George Hamilton Gordon.   It is a popular recreational resource both for residents and visitors to the area, and is important in terms of its history and natural heritage.

Haddo House itself was built by the 1st Earl of Aberdeen in the early 18th century.  This Palladian mansion was designed by William Adam, and construction started in 1732.  The National Trust of Scotland (NTS) now owns and manages the House and formal gardens.

The Haddo Estate Trust owns and manages the woodland and agricultural land surrounding the House.

Welcome to the Friends of Haddo Country Park's website

Haddo means many things to many people, and is a place that stirs the passions of most folk who visit. Whether it is history, music, architecture, landscapes or wildlife there is something special at Haddo for everyone.  We are working, as a voluntary organisation, to improve the way Haddo Country Park is managed for all visitors whether they travel a mile or a thousand miles. There are many aspects to Haddo and we hope that this website will give you a flavour of the richness of the place, and if you share our values of wanting to conserve the best bits, promoting them to the wider world and helping more people to enjoy their Haddo then why not join us.
